Flagpole Replacement in the Midwest
There is a point where repairing a pole stops making sense. A shaft that has taken a permanent bend, corrosion at the base, or a pole that was undersized for its site from the start will keep coming back as a repair call. Replacing it costs more once and less over ten years.
Replacement is two jobs in one. The old pole and its footing have to come out, which is the part with the unknowns in it, and then a correctly sized pole goes in. We quote both halves so there is no surprise when the old concrete turns out to be bigger than anyone expected.
How we handle it
Assess whether it is worth replacing
If the shaft is still true and the fault is hardware or footing, we will tell you to repair it instead.
Remove the old pole
Shaft comes down under control. Then the old footing is broken out or cut off below grade depending on what is going back in.
Correct the original mistake
Most poles we replace were the wrong size or the wrong spec for the site. This is the moment to fix that rather than repeat it.
Set and finish
New sleeve, fresh post foam footing, new pole, hardware fitted, flag flying, ground made good.
The detail that decides it

Questions about flagpole replacement
Sometimes, but only if the sleeve is the right diameter for the new pole and the concrete is sound and deep enough. More often the original footing was undersized, which is part of why the pole is being replaced. We check before we quote rather than assuming.
Look at the base. Corrosion, splitting or a visible bend means replace. If the shaft is straight and the problem is at the top or in the ground, it is usually a repair. A photo of the base and the top is enough for us to give you an answer.
There is excavation involved, so there is disturbance around the base. We backfill, grade and tidy the area before we leave. Turf will need a little time to knit back in, and we will tell you honestly how much of a scar to expect.
