What is going on with your pole?
Pick the one that sounds like your situation. Straight answer, no form required.
That is almost always a jammed or broken halyard, or a seized pulley in the truck assembly at the top of the pole. It is a common call and usually a single-visit fix. We bring the bucket truck, pull the old rope, replace the pulley if it has failed, and run fresh halyard rated for the pole height.

Either the concrete was undersized for the soil, the ground sleeve was set shallow, or water has worked the base loose over several freeze and thaw cycles. We assess whether the shaft is still true, then reset or rebuild the footing.
See flagpole repairThe quote depends on four things: whether the site is residential or commercial, single or two story, whether an existing pole has to come out first, and whether we are setting into grass, concrete or asphalt. Tell us those and the number is straightforward.
See flagpole installationSnap hooks hitting an aluminum shaft is the usual culprit, and it is fixed with covers over the hooks. Worth knowing: internal halyard poles are not quieter. They carry a weight on the cable and retainer rings around the shaft, and they generally make more noise than a covered external rope and pulley.

Most flagpoles fail for the same four reasons
Jerry's words: a lot of people selling flagpoles do not understand what they are selling. Here is what actually decides whether a pole lasts thirty years or bends in the first real wind.

The width at the base sets how much bending load the shaft can carry. Two poles can both say 25 feet and be nowhere near the same pole.
Wall thickness
The gauge of the aluminum. This is where cheap poles save money, and it is invisible from the outside until the day it matters.
Wind rating
Every pole has one, and it is tied to the flag you fly on it. Exceed it and the shaft warranty is gone, which is exactly how people get shafted.
Flag size matching
An oversized flag is the most common self-inflicted failure we see. The flag has to suit the pole, not the other way round.

Commercial jobs go on the schedule at 50 percent down. Residential product is paid for before we schedule the install.

The warranty, with the conditions attached
Plenty of companies advertise a lifetime warranty and leave out what voids it. Here is ours, including the parts that are easy to fall foul of.

Honored as long as you are flying the recommended flag size for that pole and the wind has not exceeded the pole's rating. Both of those are things we will tell you before you buy.
Telescoping poles
Lifetime warranty on the locks and the swivel rings.
The moving parts are what fail on a telescoping pole, so that is where the cover sits. Ask us which style suits your site before you decide.
Run by a retired firefighter who got obsessed with flagpoles
Jerry Mullis set out to be the most knowledgeable person in the flagpole industry and went at it head first. Off Duty Flagpoles was founded in 2017, but he has been working on poles since 2006.
The company sells and installs telescoping and commercial flagpoles, services poles that other people put in, and stocks the parts to keep them running. That is the whole business.

Questions we get asked constantly
Answers first. These come from actual customer calls, not a list someone found online.
No, and this is the single most common thing we correct. An internal halyard pole carries a heavy counterweight on the cable to keep it taut, plus retainer rings that ride around the shaft. Those parts knock against the pole. A well set up external rope and pulley pole with covers over the snap hooks is generally the quieter of the two. You may hear an occasional ting, but it is rare.
Five things. Whether it is residential or commercial. Whether the building is single or two story, which tells us the height that will look right. Whether there is an existing flagpole on site. If there is, whether we are removing it. And what we are installing into, because grass, concrete and asphalt are three different jobs and three different prices.
On one-piece poles there is a lifetime warranty on the shaft. That is honored as long as you are flying the recommended flag size for the pole and the wind does not exceed the pole's rating. On telescoping poles there is a lifetime warranty on the locks and the swivel rings. Those conditions matter, and we would rather explain them up front than after a failure.
Most of our jobs land around the $1,000 mark, but the range is wide because a 20 foot residential pole in a lawn and an 80 foot commercial pole in a parking lot are not the same project. Height, material, footing type, whether a pole has to come out first, and access for the bucket truck all move the number. We quote before any work starts.
For commercial work we ask for 50 percent down before the job goes on the schedule. For residential work we ask that the product be paid for before scheduling. The balance is due on completion.
If you fill out the form or leave a message, you will hear back within 24 to 48 hours. In practice it is usually much faster than that, because Jerry answers his own phone.
As a rule the flag length runs about one quarter to one third of the pole height. A 20 foot pole takes a 3 by 5 or a 4 by 6. A 25 foot pole takes a 4 by 6 or a 5 by 8. Going oversized is the fastest way to void a shaft warranty and tear a flag, so this is worth getting right rather than buying the biggest flag that will fit.
